MILWAUKEE (Sept. 17, 2018) – Cousins Subs® Make It Better Foundation awards $6,000 in grants to two Wisconsin-based nonprofits—Cedar Springs Church and Reach-A-Child, Inc.
A $2,000 grant was awarded to Cedar Springs Church based in Slinger, Wisconsin to cover the cost of 2019 registration for underprivileged children who would like to attend Cedar Springs Outdoor Adventure Day Camp.
“Cedar Springs Outdoor Adventure Day Camp provides an opportunity for children to experience an exciting week of summer camp while surrounded by our loving, caring and supportive staff,” said Pat Quinn, co-director at Cedar Springs Outdoor Adventure Day Camp. “The camp is provided at no cost to children living in high-poverty areas of Wisconsin, allowing us to serve more children. We are so excited that Cousins Subs’ Make It Better Foundation shares our vision of helping make the world a better place by giving young people access to positive experiences.”
A $4,000 grant was also awarded to Reach-A-Child, Inc. operating out of Madison, Wisconsin to support its Milwaukee Fire Department Program, which will allow 38 fire department vehicles to carry a reach bag – a durable backpack filled with new, vetted children’s books along with a number of drawstring backpacks. Upon arriving at a crisis scene, firefighters first take children to a safe place and then together, read one of the books found in the reach bag. The child then keeps both the book and drawstring backpack.
“This grant assures that all vehicles in the Milwaukee Fire Department will receive new children’s books and drawstring backpacks to comfort 380 children who are traumatized as a result of a house fire, car accident or other crisis,” said Curtis Fuszard, executive director at Reach-A-Child, Inc. “This gift from the Cousins Subs’ Make It Better Foundation is directed toward the largest Fire Department in the state of Wisconsin and by extension, the largest geographic area of children.”
Each grant is funded through the Cousins Subs’ Make It Better Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization established in 2013. The Make It Better Foundation aims to improve the general welfare and quality of life in the communities Cousins Subs serves and addresses three areas of interest that are vital to any community: health and wellness, hunger and youth education. Since its inception, the Make It Better Foundation has awarded more than $320,000 to nonprofit organizations throughout the state of Wisconsin.
“For more than 46 years, Cousins Subs has been rooted in its mission to believe in better—both in the quality of food we serve and in the communities we support,” said Justin McCoy, director on Cousins Subs’ Make It Better Foundation board. “By funding statewide nonprofit organizations that align with our Foundation’s three pillars, we’re able to carry on our legacy of giving.”
